About Our School

The Montessori Nest was founded in 2018 by Nirosha Reddy. Nirosha is a registered professional natural scientist who was completely drawn to the Montessori method after her daughter attended a Montessori pre-school. Fascinated by the method, she went on to study Montessori and had a vision for a beautiful, nurturing school, that transforms little children into independent, confident and, most importantly, happy children.

Our Mission

  • To allow the child to develop his or her unique personality.
  • To help the child become socially, emotionally and physically well adjusted.
  • To encourage the development of the child’s intellectual potential.

Our Curriculum

The Montessori Nest classroom includes the following components:

Practical Life

The practical life exercises enhance the development of task organisation and cognitive order through care of self, care of the environment, exercises of grace and courtesy, and refinement of physical movement and coordination.

The sensorial materials enable children to order, classify, and describe sensory impressions in relation to length, width, temperature, mass, colour, etc.

The math materials, concrete manipulative materials, allow children to internalise the concepts of numbers, symbols, sequences, and operations.

Language work includes oral language development, written expression, reading, and the study of grammar, creative dramatics, and children’s literature. Basic skills in writing and reading are developed through the use of sandpaper letters (loose alphabet letters) and other materials, which allow children to effortlessly link sounds and symbols and to express their thoughts in writing.

Additional Learning Subjects

Children are also presented with geography, history, life sciences, music, art, and movement education, through the cultural materials.

About The Montessori Method

The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. Dr Montessori’s method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures throughout the world.

Multi-age groupings, known as vertical groupings, are a hallmark of the Montessori Method: younger children learn from older children; older children reinforce their learning by teaching concepts they have already mastered. This arrangement also mirrors the real world, where individuals work and socialise with people of all ages and dispositions.

Dr Montessori observed that children experience sensitive periods, or windows of opportunity, as they grow. As their students develop, Montessori teachers match appropriate lessons and materials to these sensitive periods when learning is most naturally absorbed and internalised.

In early childhood, Montessori students learn through sensory-motor activities, working with materials that develop their cognitive powers through direct experience: seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, touching, and movement.

Dr Maria Montessori, by careful observation during her work with children, discovered that all children have an innate desire to learn, provided they are in a stimulating environment. She further established that all children, although each unique, have an intrinsic intelligence that can be nurtured to develop the whole child.
